Voicemeeter + HeSuVi: Routing Guide
Streamers and multi-device users: how to combine Voicemeeter’s routing with HeSuVi’s virtual surround without breaking either.
Why Combine Them
Voicemeeter is a virtual audio mixer — it routes and mixes multiple sources (game, mic, music, Discord) to multiple outputs. HeSuVi does virtual surround + EQ. Together: Voicemeeter handles routing, HeSuVi handles spatialization. The official HeSuVi wiki itself documents Voicemeeter as a workaround path.
Recommended Signal Chain
Game (7.1) → Voicemeeter VAIO (7.1-capable virtual input) → Equalizer APO + HeSuVi on the VAIO bus → Voicemeeter hardware out → headphones. Key principle: HeSuVi’s APO attaches to the Voicemeeter virtual bus, and Voicemeeter sends the processed result to your physical device.
Setup Steps
- Install Voicemeeter (Banana or Potato) and reboot.
- In Windows Sound, configure the Voicemeeter VAIO input as 7.1 Surround, 48 kHz.
- In the Equalizer APO Configurator, attach the APO to the Voicemeeter VAIO device (LFX/GFX mode), reboot.
- In Voicemeeter, route VAIO → A1 (your headphones). Keep the mic on a separate strip without HeSuVi processing.
- Open HeSuVi, select your HRIR profile, run the 7.1 test through the chain.
What NOT to Do
- Do not put HeSuVi’s APO on your physical headphone device and the VAIO bus — double processing.
- Do not route your microphone through the HeSuVi-processed bus — keep mic strips clean for Discord/stream.
- Watch sample rates: Voicemeeter, Windows, and the VAIO bus should all agree on 48 kHz.
Troubleshooting
- No surround: APO attached to the wrong device — must be the VAIO virtual input.
- Robotic/crackling: buffer mismatch — raise Voicemeeter’s buffering, keep 48 kHz everywhere.
- Stream hears surround but you don’t (or vice versa): check which bus each output taps — put stream mix on a pre-HeSuVi or separate bus if you want viewers to hear plain stereo.
The Bottom Line
Voicemeeter routes, HeSuVi spatializes. Attach the APO to Voicemeeter’s 7.1-capable virtual bus, keep the mic chain clean, and match sample rates. Test with the 7.1 sweep before going live.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can Voicemeeter and HeSuVi run together?
Yes — Voicemeeter handles routing/mixing, HeSuVi (via Equalizer APO) handles surround on the virtual bus.
Will my stream hear the surround effect?
Only if the stream output taps the HeSuVi-processed bus. Route deliberately — many streamers send viewers a clean stereo mix.
Does Voicemeeter replace VB-Cable?
For routing purposes, yes — Voicemeeter’s virtual inputs can serve the same 7.1-feeder role with far more control.
