Open Source & Community Driven

The Story Behind HeSuVi

HeSuVi started with a simple question: “Why should high-end spatial audio cost a fortune?” Born from the passion of the audiophile community, it has evolved into the most powerful, transparent, and versatile virtual surround tool for Windows.

Universal Access

We believe 7.1 virtualization should work on any pair of headphones—from budget earbuds to audiophile open-backs—without proprietary hardware locks.

Bit-Perfect Clarity

Unlike OEM software that adds bloat, HeSuVi acts as a lightweight interface for Equalizer APO, ensuring the lowest possible latency and CPU impact.

The Science of Sound

How We Replicate Reality

At the heart of HeSuVi is a process called Convolution. By using a “sonic fingerprint” known as an HRIR (Head-Related Impulse Response), we can mathematically apply the acoustic characteristics of a specific room or hardware device to your audio in real-time.

1

Capturing the Space: Microphones are placed inside a human’s or mannequin’s ears to record how sound interacts with the head and pinna.

2

Binaural Rendering: HeSuVi takes your game’s 7.1 channels and “convolves” each one through these recordings.

3

The Result: Your brain is tricked into thinking the sound is coming from distant speakers, not just speakers pressed against your ears.

Our Philosophy

Why We Stay Open & Free

🚫

No Bloat, No Logins

Most modern audio “suites” require 500MB of RAM, a permanent internet connection, and a user account just to enable surround sound. HeSuVi requires none of that. It’s a tool, not a service.

🛡️

Zero Data Tracking

Your audio habits are your business. HeSuVi is locally processed via Equalizer APO. We don’t collect telemetry, and we don’t track what you’re listening to. Privacy is baked into the code.

🤝

Power to the Community

HeSuVi is built on the contributions of audiophiles worldwide who record HRIRs and share them for free. We don’t gatekeep technology; we facilitate it.

“Technology should empower the user, not tether them to a subscription.”

Built on Giants

The Open Source Advantage

HeSuVi doesn’t reinvent the wheel. It leverages the most powerful open-source audio frameworks to provide a seamless, high-performance experience.

The Engine

Equalizer APO

The core driver that enables system-wide audio manipulation on Windows. It operates at the kernel level, ensuring zero latency and bit-perfect processing.

The Database

AutoEq Integration

We integrate with jaakkopasanen’s AutoEq project, giving you access to 2500+ headphone correction profiles to ensure your hardware sounds as neutral as possible.
