Best HeSuVi EQ Settings for Gaming, Music & Movies

EQ matters more than profiles. The exact starting points we recommend for footsteps, music, and cinematic sound — and the mistakes to avoid.

Rule Zero: AutoEq First

Before touching a single slider: apply the AutoEq profile for your exact headphone model inside HeSuVi. This flattens your headphones toward neutral — it is the single biggest sound-quality upgrade in this entire guide, and it is free. Everything below assumes AutoEq is already applied.

EQ for Footsteps (Competitive FPS)

  • +2 to +4 dB at 2–4 kHz — the footstep presence region. Start at +2.
  • Cut below 60–80 Hz by 3–6 dB — tames explosion rumble that masks cues.
  • Leave everything else flat. Surgical, not dramatic.
  • Lower Pre-Amp by the same amount you boosted, to avoid digital clipping.

EQ for Music

  • Trust AutoEq and stop — neutral is the goal for music.
  • Optional: a gentle bass shelf (+2–3 dB below 100 Hz) if you like warmth.
  • Avoid V-shapes wider than ±3 dB; they destroy the imaging you tuned for gaming.

EQ for Movies

  • Slight sub-bass lift (+3–4 dB below 60 Hz) for cinematic weight.
  • Keep dialogue region (1–3 kHz) neutral so voices stay clear.
  • Pair with a spacious HRIR profile (Atmos captures) rather than heavy EQ.

Three Mistakes That Ruin Imaging

  • Boosting too much: every +6 dB boost needs -6 dB pre-amp. Big boosts = distortion or a crushed pre-amp.
  • EQing before AutoEq: correcting an uncorrected headphone is guesswork.
  • Different EQ per profile without re-testing: profiles interact with EQ — re-check directionality after changes.

The Bottom Line

AutoEq first, then small moves: +2–4 dB presence for footsteps, sub-bass cuts for clarity, and restraint everywhere else. EQ is the highest-leverage tuning in HeSuVi — profiles choose the stage, EQ tunes the actors.
