HeSuVi Advanced Tuning: Speaker Positions, Channels & Profiles

Beyond picking a profile: per-channel volumes, virtual speaker placement, stereo upmix, and the profile manager — the controls most users never touch.

Speaker Position Adjustment

HeSuVi’s Speaker Position Adjustment panel shows virtual speakers (FL, FC, FR, SL, SR, RL, RR) arranged around a head icon. You can drag speakers closer or further from the listening position:

  • Feels too wide/diffuse? Pull the side speakers (SL/SR) inward.
  • Rear cues feel inside your head? Push RL/RR slightly outward/back.
  • Most users leave defaults — touch this only after settling on a profile.

Per-Channel Volume

The Volume Adjustment sliders control Master, Center, Front, Side, Rear, and LFE independently:

  • Dialogue too quiet in movies? Raise Center +10–20%.
  • Explosions overwhelming? Lower LFE.
  • Rear cues too subtle? Raise Rear slightly — small moves.

Stereo Upmix (Additional Tab)

Most music and YouTube is stereo — HeSuVi’s surround does little with it by default. The Additional tab has a stereo-to-7.1 upmix option that expands stereo into the surround field before virtualization. Honest note: upmixed stereo never sounds as coherent as native multi-channel — use it lightly for casual listening, off for critical music (see HeSuVi for music).

Profile Manager: Save Your Setups

In the Additional tab, the Profile Manager saves your full setup (HRIR + EQ + volumes + positions) under a name like ‘Competitive’ or ‘Movies’. Switching takes one click — build one profile per use case instead of re-tweaking.

Tuning Order That Works

  1. Pick HRIR profile (see profile roundup).
  2. Apply AutoEq for your headphones.
  3. Adjust per-channel volumes for content type.
  4. Touch speaker positions last, if at all.
  5. Save to Profile Manager.

The Bottom Line

Profile → AutoEq → channel volumes → speaker positions → save. That order prevents chasing your tail. Most of HeSuVi’s power is in controls users never open — now you know where they are.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does speaker position adjustment do?

It moves the virtual speakers closer/further in the simulated room, changing how wide or intimate the surround field feels.

How do I make dialogue louder in movies?

Raise the Center channel slider by 10–20% in Volume Adjustment.

What is stereo upmix in HeSuVi?

An Additional-tab option that expands stereo content into the 7.1 field before virtualization. Useful for casual listening, not for critical music.

Additional tab → Profile Manager → Save with a name. One-click switching between saved setups.
